Yoga poses (aasanas) can help us understand different types of lines formed by our body postures.
Teacher's Note: Facilitate children in practicing yoga poses. Give instructions like keeping the back straight, arms straight, curving the back, or slanting the arms and legs. Introduce them to Ashtanga Yoga as described in the ancient Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
We can understand different types of lines by holding a piece of thread in our hands:
Practice tracing missing vertical, horizontal, slanting, and curved lines in everyday pictures like playground equipment, swings, slides, and ladders.
Using grids of dots, we can create various geometric shapes and artistic figures.
Connect dots using only straight lines (vertical, horizontal, and slanting) to make shapes like squares, rectangles, triangles, and 3D boxes.
Connect dots using curved lines to draw organic shapes like flowers, clouds, rainbows, and waves.
Combine different types of lines to create beautiful designs and patterns.
Paper folding is an excellent way to explore lines and creases.
Art Integration: Discuss traditional Indian art forms like Madhubani, Kalamkari, and Warli, which extensively use basic lines and shapes.
